Professionals and executives across the globe are utilizing LinkedIn as a platform for gaining employment, building their networks, and edging out their competition for open positions. Although there’s no exact secret to success, we are here to let you in on a big pointer that may help you gain career advancement with just a few small changes to your professional profile.

First things first, don’t make your headline boring – help it to stand out by putting buzz words that can  get the attention of someone viewing your profile in a search. Here’s an example: Instead of “Director at XYZ Company” change it to “Growth-Focused Leader Experienced in Multi-Million-Dollar Revenue Increases”, that is something that will jump out at the viewer and want to learn more about you.  Once they you’re your profile, remember that you are able to see who viewed your profile in most cases so that can quickly lead to a networking conversation.

Also, make sure your LinkedIn is highlighting the achievements throughout your career that are metric heavy and quantifiable, let the numbers do the talking. Highlight a few of those in your about section so they are quickly seen from hiring managers, recruiters, or potential employers.  Start with a quick 3-4 sentence paragraph explaining your experience and skill set, then follow up with a few digestible bullets that are quick, to the point, and full of numbers!

Lastly, with your LinkedIn profile you don’t have to give out all the information from your resume. However, under each position, it is incredibly important to highlight a few of your biggest “wins” in that role. How have you made things more efficient? Revenue increases? Sales goals? Retention efforts? These are all things that are super important to the viewer, hiring manager, or recruiter – so don’t let them be forgotten!

Embrace the idea of LinkedIn and all that it can offer you. If you see a job posted, you can usually see the person who posted it. Take the time to build your network, connect with people who can help you now or in the future, and gain the confidence that you need in order to elevate your career search. All of these tools lie within LinkedIn, it’s up to you to utilize them effectively. Need help? We can assist you and can help you grow your LinkedIn branding to be top-of-mind for Fortune 500 hiring managers.
